UMAC® Wall Thickness
Measurement with Ultrasonic Measurement
UMAC® represents a complete line
of non-contact ultrasonics based systems for wall thickness measurement
and control of pipe, hose, tubing, and cables. The heart of each
system consists of a highly developed UMAC® measuring
system, interrogating up to 16 sensors at high speed. WALLMASTER
systems process data from several ODAC® measuring
heads and a UMAC® Wall Thickness and Eccentricity
System located immediately after the extruder. Automatic closed-loop
control of wall thickness and/or diameter is easily possible.

Wall Thickness and Diameter Control
on Tubing and Hoses
For this range of products all combinations are possible for measurement
and control of wall thickness
and outside or inside diameter.
- UMAC scanners for incorporation
within or outside of vacuum tanks or cooling tanks
- ODAC laser
scanners for accurate diameter/ovality measurement
- Additional
servo valves fault detectors etc.
Measurement of Insulations or Jackets
on Cables
For the extrusion of cores or jackets the WALLMASTER system offers many
possibilities thanks to its flexibility
and easy handling. All parameters, thickness, eccentricity, diameter
and ovality, can be controlled.
- For core insulation
- For jackets, also when loose or non-round
- For co-extrusions
- Automatic calibration with DIACAL system
- Hot/cold compensation

UMAC®-CI Hi-Tech
Processor.
Industrial High-Tech processor with DSP (Digital Signal Processor)
technology. Control and display by a higher level system (PC, PLC
or USYS
resp. WALLMASTER systems). All values can be read or entered via
a
serial RS or a PROFIBUS DP interface. |

Improve and Simplify Processes ...
... with GRAVI 8000, for Throughput
and Weight Measurement and Control
 |
|
Gravimetric systems from Zumbach are used as additions to
systems for tubing, pipe, hoses or cables. The throughput
can be controlled over the extruder RPM or the weight-per-unit-length
via the capstan, as required.
In connection with a WALLMASTER system, wall thickness and
eccentricity are also measured and computedaccurately. The
line can be run at choice for minimal or for average wall
thickness.
The calibration of the ultrasonic measurement is done automatically
via the gravimetric system.
Advantages
- Automatic calibration of the ultrasonic system
- Optimized
material consumption
- Throughput and weight per length under
control
- Improved process stability
- Full reporting capability

... using DIACAL 8000, for
Compensation and Automatic Calibration of the Wall Thickness
Main Features
DIACAL 8000 is a smart method for the simplified calibration during the
extrusion of cable jackets or
multi-layer tubing, pipe or hoses.
- Compensating any value of wall thickness (layer)
- Calibration
of the value of wall thickness (layer)
Benefits
- Precise
geometrical measurement of cable jackets
- Automatic
calibration of the ultrasonic measurement through intelligent
processing of the diameter measurement
- Economic solution because it employs
the existing and essential diameter measuring instrument
- Optimises
material consumption
- Generally improves the process
